This post is all about the topic: Gut Health Shot Recipe.
Gut Health Shot Recipe
For those of you new to the wellness world, a gut health shot (also called a “Wellness Shot” or “Juice shot”) is a highly-concentrated shot that is often made of vegetables and sometimes fruit and loaded with beneficial nutrients. And due to their often fermented nature, they tend to contain a large amount of probiotics.
Wellness Shots Benefits
Before getting into the details of the Gut Health Shot Recipe, we need to understand the wellness shots and their potential benefits.
Personally, I think these shots are a perfect addition to your diet. If done correctly, they certainly pack a punch and load your body with the nutrients it needs and deserves. They can provide essential vitamins, immunity-boosting nutrients, and other ingredients to aid in your digestion.
Some of the key ingredients in most wellness shots (and those in the below Gut Health Recipe guide) are:
- Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)- provides probiotics, antioxidants etc. and is especially known for calming GERD and acid reflux.
- Turmeric- has anti-inflammatory properties that helps soothe the gastrointestinal tract.
- Ginger – helps combat nausea and encourages the movement of food through your stomach for more efficient digestion.
Word of caution. These should NOT in any way act as a meal replacement. Instead, think of them as your liquid set of vitamins or elixirs to give your body an extra nutrient boost.
Blending versus Juicing
Using a Blender for Your Wellness Shots
When making your Gut Health Shot Recipe, you can either use a blender or a juicer for the best results. If using a blender, you will often need to add a little water or some other base liquid (i.e.- Coconut water) and then strain the juice with a fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth to remove any of the fiber or pulp.
There are instances when you would want to use a blender versus a juicer and keep the fiber in tact. However, given the nature of these shots and how we really are looking to get a strong, concentrated juice versus more of a smoothie-type concoction, then it definitely makes sense to remove the extra fiber when making wellness gut health shots.
As for the type of blender to use, it really is your preference. I would start with using any blender that you have on hand. However, I whole-heartedly recommend a Vitamix blender, if you are ever looking for an upgrade. It 100% is my go-to blender, and I use it daily for things beyond just wellness shots.
Yes, it is pricey but I have had mine for over 10 years and it’s still going strong. 1000% worth it in my opinion.
Using a Juicer for Your Wellness Shots
Probably the better option is to use a juicer to make your Gut Health Shot Recipe. I could create a totally separate article on which juicers to buy, and the differences between the types of juicers, but I will save that for another time.
If you aren’t sure if juicing is your thing, then I definitely recommend starting of with a cheaper model. I would even look to thrift stores or other second-hand outlets for these types of products. My very first juicer was a Breville Compact Juicer that I received as a gift. I used it for years and think it is a great, starter option.
I have since switched to an Omega Masticating Juicer and absolutely love it, but do recognize that it is an investment. The whole reason I went with the masticating (also called “cold-pressed”) juicer is because these types of juicers extract the juice in a way that preserves more vitamins and nutrients.
Note: This was REALLY important to me at the time, since I bought this juicer while I was going through my cancer treatment and really needed a juicer that would give me as many nutrients possible.
Best Wellness Shots Recipe
Here is my favorite part of this article, where we provide a specific Gut Health Shot Recipe and list some our favorites shots in terms of taste, ease of making as well as overall benefit to our guts.
1. Turmeric Shot Recipes
One of the main shot recipes that you should consider is a turmeric gut health shot recipe.
As mentioned above, turmeric shots have so many health benefits, especially when it comes to digestion. The main ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, helps reduce chronic inflammation and naturally increases your body’s antioxidants.
Pro Tips when making Turmeric Shots:
- Add Black Pepper. Did you know that adding black pepper to turmeric increases the absorption of curcumin (up to 2000%)?
- Use either ground or fresh turmeric. And remember, 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric is equal to 1 approximately tablespoon of fresh turmeric.
- Take turmeric with food. Fatty foods such as eggs or vegetable oils are the best foods to take with turmeric as they contain lecithin, which helps your body better absorb turmeric!
Basic Turmeric Shot Recipe
The majority of turmeric shot recipes out there include four main ingredients: turmeric, ginger, lemon and black pepper. That’s it! Some get creative and add things such as orange juice and even coconut water, but I always prefer to start off simple.
Instructions (base recipe):
- 8 oz. Turmeric
- 8 oz. Ginger
- 2 Lemons- with skins removed
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
- Thoroughly cleanse the ginger and turmeric.
- Throw the turmeric, ginger, and lemons (with skins removed) into the juicer. Note: If using a blender, be sure to add a little water to this recipe and then pour into a fine-mesh strainer to remove the pulp before drinking.
- Add the black pepper and mix.
- Enjoy

2. Apple Cider Vinegar Shot Recipes
Apple Cider Vinegar has long been by go-to remedy for my achy stomach, and why this is listed second in my Gut Health Shot Recipe list.
Apple cider vinegar naturally has tons of probiotics, which helps boost your immune system and elevate gut health. Plus, it is also may help improve your blood pressure, ease your acid-reflux, and even lower your cholesterol. Bonus tip: If you add it to your shampoo, it will even remove your product buildup!
Pro Tips when making Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Shots:
- Go “raw” or go home! Raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar is for sure the way to go. Brands such as Bragg’s contain what they refer to as “the Mother”, which is a bunch of raw enzymes and bacteria that promote good digestion.
- Take Apple Cider Vinegar before meals so that the benefits of ACV go right to your stomach.
- Dilute Apple Cider Vinegar with water or juice to help save the enamel on your teeth.
Basic Apple Cider Vinegar Shot Recipe
I really like this Apple Cider Vinegar Shot from Yummy Mummy Kitchen, mainly because it is simple, does not require a juicer or a blender, and uses orange juice (versus honey) for a sweetener.
(I have nothing against honey per se, but do know that it can cause my IBS flareups, so I generally try to steer clear of it if possible.)
Instructions:
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 8 oz. still or sparkling water
- Combine the orange juice, apple cider vinegar, and ginger in a small jar and shake until all ingredients are combined.
- Cover and refrigerate until ready to use, but best when consumed after 2-3 days.
Some other of my favorite and creative Apple Cider Vinegar Gut Health Shot recipes are:
- Apple Cider Vinegar Shot (with Lemon, Ginger or Beetroot)
- Apple Cider Vinegar Shots (with Orange, Cranberry, and even Pomegranate!)
3. Ginger Shot Recipes
Ginger is probably one of the most famous things to take to help with tummy troubles. This is why ginger shots are third on the Gut Health Shot Recipe list.
Not only does ginger knowingly help improve your digestion, but it also may play a role in helping with anxiety, depression and even dementia.
Pro Tips when making Ginger Shots:
- The firmer, moister ginger roots are generally the better. Pass it up if it looks too dry or flaky.
- You can store ginger on the counter, but its best kept in the refrigerator for longer periods of time.
- You can peel ginger with a spoon, vegetable peeler or even with a knife.
Simple (but delicious) Ginger Shot Recipe
Again, I always prefer to start off with a simple recipe and alter it from there. This gut health shot recipe is one of the more basic recipes that involves ginger. Personally, I love the Granny Smith Apple + Ginger combination, which is why I chose this recipe as the ginger Gut Health Shot Recipe to feature.
- 1 Granny Smith Apple
- 1/2 Lemon (with skins removed)
- 1/2″-1″ piece of Ginger
- Wash and core the apple and place it into your juicer.
- Juice the lemon, making sure to remove the skins
- Juice the ginger.
- Enjoy!

Last, but certainly not the least on the Gut Health Shot Recipe list is Sauerkraut shots.
I know that Sauerkraut shots might sound absolutely crazy and even off-putting to some, and I will admit that they are not for the faint of heart. However, Sauerkraut shots are an acquired taste and something that will grow on you over time.
